Hi everyone!

Here are the very brief results from the 28th Annual NSRA ‘Nostalgia Nationals’ at Santa Pod last weekend, 5th - 7th May. This event was Wild Bunch Series Round 1, Spirit of Nostalgia Challenge Round 1 and Roy Wilding Nostalgia Race Cars Round 1. The weather forecast was very mixed for the weekend!!

The Wild Bunch had a good field of 23 teams entered though unfortunately a couple of teams couldn't attend. Friday had been due to be quite rainy, and the RWYB day started with dark clouds and rain fell after 3 pairs causing a fair bit of downtime! But eventually the track opened again and dozens of runs were completed! 7 Wild Bunch cars took part and did some testing. This included Ford Skipp, 18-year old son of Alan making his first ever passes in the ‘Chasin’ Time’ slingshot, finishing with a very competent best of 10.005 / 135. Well done Ford!!  Also, Rich Butcher’s son Vinny was having a turn in the ‘4th Dimension’ slingshot. He also did very well, recording a 12.740/113.21 best!

Saturday was predicted to be a washout and eventually after repeated rain showers throughout the day, no racing took place. This was disappointing but expected and a lot of chatting and bench racing took place!!

On Sunday, the Bunch were scheduled for 3 runs. We had decided to have the first run as practice / tuning for all, as most people had not had a run since last September, so better to have a practice for all!

There was some downtime in the morning, and our practice run took place at around 12:30. Then our first round run was some time later at about 3:30! Our second round was not long after, at about 5pm.

Here are the Top 4 at the event after the 3 rounds of competition, with the average difference to Dial-in shown. Many Congratulations to all!:

1st Place: Phil James in ‘Rampage’ .0468 (Great bounce back after issues in the practice run! Welcome back to the Winner’s circle Phil!)

2nd Place: Bradley Cooper in ‘Back from the Past’ .0733 (Bradley was leading after the first round with the .002 off! Brilliant result for Bradley, Ken and Denise!)

3rd Place: James Auld in ‘Little Fauss’ .0793  (great to see James back in the Top 4!)

4th Place: Greg Tait in ‘Timelock 2’ .1470 (well done to Greg on his first Top 4 in his first full event!)

Plus the other finishers to complete all 3 rounds without redlights were the following, who all deserve an honourable mention: 5th – Keith Crampton, 6th - Bob Hawkins, 7th – Dan & Elliott Jones, 8th – Rich Butcher, 9th – Paul Tarry, 10th – Ian Wild, 11th – Allan Schofield.

Here are the Spot Prizes that were won. Many Congratulations to all:-

Closest to Dial-in (in the rounds): Bradley Cooper in ‘Back from the Past’ with .002 off! (Yes that is good Bradley!!)

Best Reaction (in the rounds): Allan Schofield in ‘Scud’ altered  .040 (great RT with a strong  8.119/160 in the practice round)

Quickest E.T. of the event:  Bob Hawkins in ‘Time Traveller II’ 6.736 (also fastest with 198.94 mph!)

He also won the NSRA award for the same feat!

Best Burnout: Bob Hawkins in ‘Time Traveller II

Best Appearing Car:  Danny & Elliott Jones in ‘Ragin’ Cajun’ (fantastic paint and period correct graphics)

Best Appearing Team: Steve & Lesley Field in ‘Black Pig Too’ (great teamwear and professional appearance)

Commentator’s Choice: Team ‘Happy Daze’ for their fantastic long-awaited first 10-second run!!

Many Congratulations to Happy Daze Team members Rob & Sarah who got engaged at the prize presentation!!! This was several years in the planning as Rob had said he would propose if he ran a 10-second run (and he has been bringing the ring with him to the track for 3 years!). Sarah said ‘Yes!’. Hooray!!  We wish them many more ‘happy daze’!!

Commiserations to all those who had breakages or issues: Dan Wilson with a broken steering arm, Crazy Chris Hartnell with an MSD issue, Rob & Pete Brown with a broken gearbox, Wayne Colliver with mag issues and Andy Jackson with a couple of minor issues. Hope you can all get them fixed real soon!!

Every team put on a good show and it was great to watch as always! Well done everyone!! Here is the full field of great Wild Bunch participants!!!! There we’re just a few PB’s this weekend, shown in this table. Congrats folks!!

Well done to all!

Thanks again to the NSRA and all the marshals and officials at Santa Pod for all their hard work as always. Well done to all those who put on a great show this weekend! We really hope the next events are a lot drier and warmer!

All the best
Claire
