Hi everybody!

Here are the brief results from our WB "Spring Nationals" at the Gary’s Picnic Yanks Weekend event at Shakey, on 27th – 29th May:

The Wild Bunch had a total of 14 teams participating in competition this weekend, with another 5 teams at the track for testing. Saturday and Sunday were mostly dry throughout, though Saturday was very windy. It rained heavily overnight Sunday, and the track crew worked hard to get the track open at 10:30am. We got on quickly with our rounds and managed to get 2 rounds in before a downpour just before 1pm whilst the teams were returning to the pits. The track crew got to work again, but more light rain and showers put paid to the rest of the day. Huge thanks to the track crew for all their hard work! The winners were:

1st Place: Bob Morgan in “B-Sting” .007 average
2nd Place: Phil James in “Rampage” .025 average
3rd Place: Terry Clifford in “Ratcatcher Resurrection” .058 average
4th Place: Darryl Howells in “Chemical Reaction” .087 average

Many thanks to Dave & Linda Williams for sponsoring the trophies for this event!!

Here are the Spot Prizes that were awarded:-

Best Reaction (on Race-day): Skippy in “Cheap Thrills” .127
Closest to Dial-in (on Race-day): Bob Morgan in “B-Sting” .004 off
Fastest MPH of the event: Tom Hawkins in “Time Traveller I” 170.59 mph
Best Altered: Bob Morgan in “B-Sting”
Best Slingshot: Keith Crampton in “Soul Town Shaker”
Best Burnout: Rob & Pete Brown in “Wrathchild”
Best Appearing Team: Team “Ratcatcher Resurrection”

Some highlights of the weekend included the great bunch of drivers and cars, loads of track time, 2 completed rounds of racing and a great show by all of the Bunch.

The full field on Monday included:

Keith Crampton in “Soul Town Shaker” (back with a freshly rebuilt engine and nice extra touches on the car which is looking fabulous! Deep into the 10’s)
Pete & Rob Brown in “Wrathchild” (did a cool experimental burnout Saturday, had struggles on Sunday, but good first round performance and made both rounds after a glitch)
Bob Morgan in “B-Sting” (ultra consistent again; well done to the team on a 6-hour round trip to Rochdale to get replacement spark plugs which enabled Bob to win back-to-back events! Congrats!)
Philippa & Mark Turton in “Bitchcraft” / “Legion” (Mark drove with the body off Saturday and had good solid runs including a 12.8; Philippa improved on her PB twice with the body on version of the car)
Terry Clifford in “Ratcatcher Resurrection” (had trouble with a brake caliper but managed to get this sorted thanks to help from Steve Field who travelled back to his workshop with Terry to fix it; Terry then ran very well Monday)
Mick Hillier in “Texas Ranger” (first outing of the year, testing the NOS, promising start but blew a head gasket so hope they can get that fixed soon)
Phil James in “Rampage” (good consistent runs and another great performance in the Top 4)
Skippy of Team Ratchet Strap in “Cheap Thrills” (first time in the 9’s! Many Congrats to the whole team on this achievement! Fair play! And Yeehah!!!!)
Darryl Howells in “Chemical Reaction” (great launches and running really strongly with a string of 8’s)
Dave ‘Sag’ Southworth in “Daddy Cool” (great start to the weekend with a 9.14 /147 but had trouble chasing fuel leaks Sunday and Monday, so hope the team can cure that and be running well soon)
Steve Field in “Black Pig Too” (improved performance and some promising runs, plus great burnouts!)
Andy Stones in “Stoned” (plenty of runs, and doing well until clutch damage late Sunday, so hope he can fix that quickly and be back on form soon)
Jim Tanner in “Shindigger” (ran good passes including a 10.0, great start to the rounds on Monday)
Tom Hawkins in “Time Traveller I” (just a couple of test passes Sunday and then strong 7.7s Monday)

Plus the following teams were testing at the weekend, and did not stay for Monday's rounds:
Ian Coulsell in “Adventure before Dementia” (put in a checkout pass on Saturday, happy with result)
Steve Bingham in “Sneaky Blinder” (only testing Saturday, racing partner Heidi in tow truck!! Great new team shirts and looking good!)
Graham Rawlings in “Rawspeed” (only able to attend Saturday and Sunday, working hard on those 60ft times, and a good performance!)
Robert White in “Happy Daze” (Welcome to a new member and his team, really got to grips well with his psychedelically-painted slingshot, and in his first ever time racing got into the 11’s at 122mph! Well done!)
Matt Fuller in “Oblivion” (only able to attend Saturday and Sunday, great runs and a new PB of 10.088 / 134.43mph!!)

PB’s

Keith Crampton in “Soul Town Shaker” 10.787
Philippa Turton in “Bitchcraft” 13.229
Skippy of Team Ratchet Strap in “Cheap Thrills” 9.95
Darryl Howells in “Chemical Reaction” 8.782
Tom Hawkins in “Time Traveller I” 170.59 mph

It was a really good event, where we were lucky to get 2 rounds completed! Many thanks to all at Shakey for their hard work once again, and going the extra mile! Well done and massive thanks to all! Well done to all the Wild Bunch teams on a great show! We look forward to the next event on 10th & 11th June. Hope to see you there!
