The E.T.'s mentioned above are personal bests achieved this weekend. Super Series Round 3 was not any Wild Bunch Series points round, but there were spot prizes and 1st/2nd trophies and prize monies kindly provided by Obsession Motorsports again and prize money from Ford Rapid Fit. Many thanks!!!! The weather turned out great again (do Terry & Tina do "sundances" the night before???)!! and the track was again excellently prepared by Bruno and crew. [and the marshalls are going from strength to strength in efficiency - they must've got through 50 cars and bikes in the last 20 minutes on Saturday!!] We had a field of 10 cars at this event.
SATURDAY QUALIFYING Most cars had 2 qualifying runs on the Saturday.
WB 6 | Chris Hartnell's first pass in "Backdraft" was a 9.499 on a 9.50 dial-in!! Closest breakout we've had yet!! He later made "Top Qualifier" with .016 over his 9.40 dial-in, running his best ever E.T. of 9.416! |
WB 11 | Clive Bush was making his MSA event debut after collecting his race licence, in the newly-named "Good Fun Dragster" (ex-Roy Wilding Buick slingshot). He unfortunately lost fire on the burnout and was disqualified from the round for being pushed, but made up for it in the 2nd round by running his personal best of 12.324 and looking stronger. |
WB 43 | Martin Holgate was right on the numbers in "Paranoia" with a 10.918 on a 10.90 dial-in, just .002 off the #1 spot!!! Unfortunately not recording a time on round two - could it have been even better?!! |
WB 46 | Colin Aldred was slightly off the pace in his "Classy Chassy" and had problems in the 2nd round, but still qualified 7th. |
WB 56 | Ray Ford was trying so hard in round 1 that he pulled a cherry, later still coaxing the "Ramraider" into starting and running smoothly and having a 'safe' qualifier. |
WB 96 | Tony Smith ran in the low 12's and put in his best E.T. of 12.157 in the practice lap in "The Cunning Plan". |
WB 100 | Angi Wilding experienced a problem on the line and was disqualified from round 1 for being pushed, but still made the run to check out the gearbox (which ended up on the floor of the pits Sunday with more problems). She still qualified in the second round in her "Chariot of Fire". |
WB 102 | Steve Goode had the second closest breakout on round 1 with a 11.995 on a 12.00 dial-in, later qualifying 3rd with .037 off his 11.80 dial-in in "Wobble". |
WB 109 | Paul Croston had a steady day and finished in 9th spot in the "B-Sting" altered (which had been #1 at SS1). |
WB 119 | Sarah Howells ran consistently to take 5th spot in "Nutcracker". |
SUNDAY ELIMINATIONS Round 1 Chris Hartnell advanced to the quarter-finals with a 9.541 alongside Clive Bush. Steve Goode narrowly defeated Ray Ford by virtue of reaction times, winning by just .017. Sarah Howells beat Angi Wilding (who was still experiencing "running out of revs" at top end). Martin Holgate advanced over Colin Aldred in another close race, close reaction times and not much in the dial-ins. Tony Smith was unlucky (!) to be stopped after the burnout with a slight oil leak, only to realise he had been very lucky as his drive shaft had sheared after the burnout (!). [the Christmas Tree and Tony breathed a sigh of relief!!]. This allowed Paul Croston to progress to the next round with a high 12-second pass. Quarter-finals Chris Hartnell had a bye in this round, running a 9.461 and Steve Goode beat Sarah Howells in another close race (although his reaction time was slower for the first time this weekend!). Martin Holgate and Paul Croston both red-lit, with Martin doing so second to take the win (Paul was only .042 off his dial-in with a 12.742 - his best run of the weekend!). Semi-finals Steve Goode defeated Chris Hartnell in the semi's by virtue of his great .475 reaction time, in the closest race of the weekend, with Chris losing by just .010 at the top end and running the fastest speed of the week-end (133.93, for the 3rd time at the event!). Great racing!! Martin Holgate finally saw #2 qualifying pay off with a bye into the final!. [ interestingly, both Martin and Chris were exactly .084 off their respective dial-ins!!!] Finals Martin changed his dial-in for the first time this weekend and this very nearly paid off with him running a 10.914 on a 10.91, taking "Closest to Dial-in" (with .004 off!!). He couldn't match another good reaction time from Steve Goode who took first place in a great looking race! Congratulations to both!!! and to all the racers for getting the hang of this E.T. Bracket racing! Looking forward to "the big one" - SS4 on August bank holiday!!! |
