Saturday This was a qualifying day and there were scheduled to be 4 qualifying rounds. The day started off cloudy and cool, and although dry, adverse track conditions first thing meant the start got delayed til 11:30am. In the first round of qualifying, 4 drivers took part; but with a couple of showers and some track cleanups, this turned out to be the only qualifier.
WB 3was Helen Smythe in her first outing of 2006 in the Hell's Belle altered. She Dialled in at 10.00 for her first run and ran a 10.611 @ 127.01 mph, to qualify in 2nd place.
WB 4‘Crazy’ Chris Hartnell was also in his first outing of the season. He Dialled in at 9.50, but lost traction off the launch, never really hooking up to a 12.530 @ 100.46 mph. He qualified in 3rd place.
WB 9saw the long-awaited debut of the all-new methanol-injected Chevy-powered RamRaider slingshot of Team Dog's B's, with Ed Yates taking the inaugural drive. The team performed a couple of fireups in the pits, and sorted out some last-minute tuning, but unfortunately missed the one and only qualifier. They did get a chance to run later in the day when there was a short period of open practice. The car fired well and Ed drove round to stage, and drove the car to a smooth-looking 12.0 @ 110 mph, a very impressive debut run. Fair play to the whole team on the debut of a well-turned out car!
WB 34Alec Coe was in his second event of the year in the Coe & Mortimer Shy Talker blown slingshot, looking great with its newly-repainted purple with ivory flames. Alec Dialled in a conservative 8.60, and went straight out and ran an 8.240 @ 169.37 mph, a new Personal Best mph! He didn’t mind breaking out for that one! Alec qualified 4th with the only breakout of the session.
WB 44Sarah Howells was back in the hotseat of the Destiny's Angel altered of team Evolution Racing, eager to defend her Ultimate Power Series title of 2005. She Dialled in at 9.65 and went out and ran a 9.706 @ 143.28 mph, just .056 off, which proved to be the #1 Qualifying mark!
Sunday (Race Day) started off sunny and cool but became more cloudy and there were scattered showers. 4 Wild Bunch cars had qualified for the race and there were due to be 2 good races for the Semi-finals, with Helen against Alec, and Chris facing Sarah.

All the cars prepared for the semis, and we were called for the round mid-afternoon, after a couple of delays for more showers. The four semi-finalists were in the fireup road waiting their turn, but unfortunately the rain came down again, and although it dried a bit, it then rained again, and the officials were forced to call the end of the event, which was a great shame for the first race of the season.

The Spot Prizes were still awarded on the basis of Saturday's runs, and Sarah took the Closest to Dial-in award with her qualifying mark of .056 off the Dial-in. She also won the Best Reaction with a .154, not bad for the first run of the year! Team Dog's Bollocks were awarded the Best Appearing Car trophy for their impressive debut of the lovely all-new RamRaider slingshot.

All in all, a frustrating event cut short by the weather. Thanks again to all the hard working marshals and officials for their efforts to try and get the track ready several times. We are now really looking forward to the first Real Steel Series round of 2006, which will be at the 40th Anniversary Easter Thunderball at Santa Pod!! We are very excited and honoured to be joining in with this historic celebration of British Drag Racing!
