Hiya,
One thing to remember is the certification is only for the drivers safety cell or cage area forward to the motor mid plate. In front of that is up to you.
It depends what certification you want, assuming you don't need anything quicker than 8.50 (mild steel) or 7.50 (chromoly) you can follow the drawings shown in the MSA rule book. The rule book is part of your membership when you join or you can buy it for £10 I think. It's available from the tracks as well. (Santa Pod and Shakespeare County Raceway). you need the book to see what other safety gear you need as well, transhield, belts, etc..
Alternatively you can buy slingshot plans from Mark Williams or S&W in the US. (approx $50)
Or as another alternative you can buy the SFI plans from the SFI foundation. You can then follow the spec as fast as you want to go. e.g 7.50 and slower, 6.0 to 7.49, or 5.99 and quicker.....
Hope that helps.
Dean.

Surely before you can improve the chassis you need to know what if anything is wrong with the old one. Best way to do that is get one of us chassis tech guys to have a look for you, that way you know exactly whats wrong. Unless you already know and want to totally start again.
Cheers

Best bet is to ring Roy Wilding about this as he built the thing,he will tell you why its not taggable. And what it needs. but I think it will not be good news. |

Hi Philip Have sent you a mail with Roy's number on, so hope you can contact him. I rang Roy about the chassis and tagging. He copied the car's chassis to be the same as the one from the "Patriot" slingshot, and this was over 20 years ago. The build regulations have changed about 3 times since then, so this chassis will definitely not tag. But obviously the chassis that Roy builds now are built to current spec and of a very high standard. Roy said to ring him if you have any questions. Hope this helps Chris |

I thought you could build a mild steel car down to 7.50, then any quicker had to be chromo? I remember Geoff said mine would tag down to 7.50 but we only tagged it to 8.50. I may need to up my tag soon lol hence why i am asking. |

Just had my mild steel chassis tagged to 7.50 (I dont think it will go that quick, but its nice knowing that its safe to it.)Quicker than that and then its chromoly |

YaY! Thought that was the case - anyone know what the differences are between a 7.50 and 8.50 tag for a mild steel chassis in terms of rule differences. We ran an 8.59 last year, and there may be some left in her so I want to get her tagged to 7.50 just in case :-). Im sure when we took the car the Geoff Martin for checking initially back in early 2006 he said it was good for 7.50, not sure if the chassis requirements have changed since then... |
