Hi everyone
Here are the brief results from the “Springspeed Nationals” at Shakey this Bank Holiday Weekend, 30th April – 2nd May, with a full writeup and results to follow as soon as we can!
The Wild Bunch had a total of 10 teams competing at the event. The weather was very frustrating overall, and unfortunately there were a couple of incidents (we hope the riders are okay and send our very best wishes to them!). So with not much track time, there were just the 2 qualifiers on the Sunday. Monday started dry and we got the first round in, and though we were just 4 pairs away from our second round, the drizzle started and this turned to rain by 2pm, and the event was curtailed. However, because we had a round, we were able to declare a result:
Here are the Top 4:
1st Place: Phil James in “Rampage” 2nd Place: Alan Loten in “Paranoia” 3rd Place: Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II” 4th Place: Dan Sharp in “Little Big Horn”
Here are the Spot Prizes that were awarded:-
#1 Qualifier: Phil James in “Rampage” .039 off Best Reaction (in eliminations): Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II” .041 Closest to Dial-in (in eliminations): Phil James in “Rampage” .002 off Quickest E.T. of the event: Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II” 7.178 Best Appearing Team: Team “Little Big Horn”
There was one PB this weekend!
Steven East in “Ellie’s in Trouble Now” ran 141.30mph
The full line-up was:
Phil James - Rampage (very consistent throughout! 2 identical ET’s) Terry Clifford - Ratcatcher Resurrection (started well in the low 9's then had a snaky run) Dick Sharp - Dorset Horn (ran initially better than expected and a minute breakout in a very close and exciting race) Russ Heaven – Tight Fit (doing observed runs and picked the wheels up for the first time) Darryl Howells - Chemical Reaction (showed improvement then a small leak meant he could not make the round) Alan Loten - Paranoia (cured a leak, then testing on first pass, then a great win in a close low 9-second race against the Horn) Sarah Howells – Black Pig Too (unfortunately some niggly problems sidelined the Pig, best of luck to the team to bounce back!) Bob Hawkins - Time Traveller II (still tuning, made the round after a last minute glitch, great reaction) Steven East - Ellie’s in Trouble Now (welcoming new crew and Joshua in a tow car on Monday!) Dan Sharp – Little Big Horn (overcame starter motor problems and qualified 2nd)
Highlights of the weekend included: a good entry of 10 great teams, and a round of racing completed.
With the poor weather, it could have been a better event, but the qualifying and racing that did take place were really good! All the teams would like to thank the marshals and officials and track crew and staff for all their hard work and trying hard to keep the racing going in tough conditions. Thanks very much also to Mark Coulsell for his hard work pit running throughout.
Well done to all the teams, who put on another good show this weekend! We’re looking forward to the first Wild Bunch Series round in 2 weeks’ time, the start of the 21st running of the Series!
Full report posted as soon as we can!
