Hi everybody!
Real sorry about the late update! Normally I like to get these on within the day, but was unwell for a few days, then and got caught up with other things, so apologies for delay!!!
Here are the brief results from our WB "Spring Nationals" at the Gary's Picnic Yanks Weekend event at Shakey, on 28th - 30th May, with a full writeup and results to follow as soon as we can:
Just prior to this weekend, everyone was hit by the devastating news about our Scottie. We would all like to send him and Gina and family all of our love and support and very best positive energy. As we all said in the photoshoot which we held to send him a heartfelt message: "We Love Ya Scottie!!"
The Wild Bunch had a great total of 23 teams participating this weekend. Saturday and Sunday were dry throughout, and a vast improvement on the previous forecast. Monday remained dry and there was loads of track time and we completed all 4 rounds of racing! This weekend we carried on our trial of the RWYB format including Reaction times (where all the driver's differences to Dial-in are added to all their Reactions and averaged). The winners were:
1st Place: Bob Hawkins in "Time Traveller II" .1128 2nd Place: Neil Ward in "Andromeda" .3140 3rd Place: Keith Crampton in "Soul Town Shaker" .3340 4th Place: Mark Coulsell in "Ballbreaker" .3380
Many thanks to our anonymous donor for posting a small prize fund for the winner.
Here are the Spot Prizes that were awarded:-
Best Reaction (on Race-day): Andy Stones in "Stoned" .053 Closest to Dial-in (on Race-day): Neil Ward in "Andromeda" .005 off Quickest ET of the event: Bob Hawkins in "Time Traveller II" 7.499 Best Altered: Lee Hartnell in "Metal Mistress" Best Slingshot: Rob & Pete Brown in "Wrathchild" Best Burnout: Bob Morgan in "B-Sting" Best Engineered: Bob Hawkins in "Time Traveller II" Best Appearing Team: Team "Stoned"
Some highlights of the weekend include the big field of Wild Bunch, great weather, loads of track time, a few welcome returns of drivers who haven't raced for a while, plus "Crazy" Chris back to watch son Lee's new car debut, and a great show by all the Bunch; as well as all the huge outpouring of love and support shown for Scottie and family, constantly in our thoughts, and wonderful to see loads of ribbons flying on cars for him.
The full field included:
Keith Crampton in "Soul Town Shaker" (Congrats Grandad as you welcome a lovely granddaughter!!!) Bob Morgan in "B-Sting" (very consistent on Dial-in) Tom Larman in "The Ferret" (well done to Tom on his brilliant "Bring and Buy" Stall for Scottie) Carl & Phil James in "Rampage" (first runs for Carl driving, and recording a PB of 8.697 /151.01) Lee Hartnell in "Metal Mistress" (A big welcome back to Lee on his debut of this new car and first race for nearly 11 years! Congratulations Lee!! PB 12.643 / 94.75 checkout passes) Mark Coulsell in "Ballbreaker" (very consistent Monday, and the middle racer of 3 generations running at the weekend, match raced Dad too!) Pete & Rob Brown in "Wrathchild" (so nearly in the Top 4! Soon boys!) Terry Clifford in "Ratcatcher Resurrection" (recovered very well from a problem in Round 2) Mick Hillier in "Texas Ranger" (unfortunately did not get to race Monday) Ian Coulsell in "Adventure before Dementia" (Huge Congratulations on his racing debut at the ripe young age of 69! (He won't mind us telling!) PB 15.278 / 98.53) Neil Ward in "Andromeda" (a big welcome back to Neil after problems in recent years; fantastic 2nd!) Team Ratchet Strap in "Cheap Thrills" (PB 10.804 / 126.08 Great stuff guys!!!) Darryl Howells in "Chemical Reaction" (dipped back in the low 9's so chuffed to see that) Alan Loten in "Paranoia" (finishing with a much stronger run) Dave "Sag" Southworth in "Daddy Cool" (unfortunately had problems, but soon to cure those with Al) Mike Couch in "Chequered Past" (mixed fortunes on Monday, so best of luck to him) Andy Jackson in "Hammerman II"(unique car, with some teething troubles but hopefully soon fixed) Steve Field in "Black Pig Too" (solidly in the mid 9's, and showing promise) Andy Stones in "Stoned"(pulled out a cracker Reaction on the last round!) Graham Rawlings in "Rawspeed" (12 runs at the weekend, and his first 10's at Shakey) Jim Tanner in "Shindigger" (got a "spare engine" from a road car between events, and made all the rounds) Bob Hawkins in "Time Traveller II" (great consistent performance with differences and reactions) Matt Fuller in "Oblivion" (commiserations on the half shaft breakage - making lots of power there!)
It was a great event, where we were lucky to get all 4 rounds completed! Many thanks to all at Shakey for their hard work once again, well done to all! Well done to all the Wild Bunch teams on more great performances! We look forward to the next event on 11th & 12th June. Hope to see you there!
Much love to Scottie and Gina and family
