Hi everyone! Here are the brief results from the awesome 6th Annual Dragstalgia event at Santa Pod last weekend, 16th & 17th July, with a full writeup and results to follow as soon as we can!
This weekend was once again dedicated to our dear friend Scottie
The Wild Bunch had an amazing field of 42 teams including 3 teams from France, Italy and Germany participating and one very special guest at the event!!! Our biggest ever field, topping the 38 at last year's event!!
The weather was pretty good on Friday though very cool and cloudy at times (some teams took advantage of the RWYB session to test). Saturday was cloudy and warmer, and although Sunday started off with a little drizzle, there was no delay to the track opening, and it just got warmer and sunnier throughout the day! Though due to various stoppages, there was only time for 2 Wild Bunch rounds.
Here are the Top 4 at the event. Congratulations to all:
1st Place: Alan Loten in 'Paranoia' .009 average (very consistent and a back-to-back win!! Congrats Alan & Steve!) 2nd Place: Keith Crampton in 'Soul Town Shaker'.020 average (great first run and consistency paid off) 3rd Place: Liz Malcolm in 'Jus' 4 Fun' .027 average (welcome again Liz!) 4th Place: Terry Clifford in 'Ratcatcher Resurrection' .031 average (great way to celebrate 10 years of racing!)
Special thanks to Steven East and the whole of Team East who put up sponsorship for the Spot Prizes, and special thanks also to DASH Racing who also put up prize money for 1st -4th places and the 'Spirit of Nostalgia' award. All very much appreciated!
Here are the Spot Prizes that were awarded. Congratulations to all:-

Highlights of this weekend included:
A huge personal and Wild Bunch highlight was that a great team of people had worked incredibly hard to get Scottie and Gina's 'Tiki Munki' running with a brand new small block Chevy engine, which Gina made 3 great passes in over the weekend, including a brilliant PB of 11.89 at 117mph. She also took part in the Cacklefest to boot, with the team's traditional push start with their Chevy! Fair play to Gina and the whole team on this fantastic achievement, so emotional and such a fabulous tribute to both her and Scottie, who would be so very proud of his amazing wife, and family and friends!
Another highlight was to have a special guest join us, Simon Bull, son of 'King' Harold Bull, the first man to ever run down the strip at Santa Pod on 11th April 1966!! Harold and sons have recreated that 'Stripduster' car, and the biggest highlight of the weekend historically was that Harold, at age 91, along with other British Drag Racing Hall of Famer and fellow legend and also Wild Bunch member Ken 'Mr Flathead' Cooper with the team's recreated Flathead Slingshot, raced against each other to a flag start by 60's and 70's Pod starter Stu Bradbury, down the famous Santa Pod quarter mile in celebration of the track's 50th Anniversary on Saturday! Wow!! Also, on Sunday morning, their sons, Simon and Ken respectively, raced each other in the first round in Wild Bunch! Double wow!!
Other highlights include: the huge and varied field of Wild Bunch cars and fantastic people, including so many regulars, returning members, new members and guests, 2 full rounds of racing overall, the Cacklefest (where Gina began it with a push start in 'Tiki' from the Chevy) and Bob Hawkins doing a fab flame burnout, an absolutely incredible show from all of the Wild Bunch, including loads of gorgeous backup girls, great team wear, pit displays, great performances and matchups! Everyone really did themselves so much more than proud again!! Well done all! It was great to see so many teams out having fun! It was really a fantastic spectacle to see so many great teams and cars racing!! There were so many individual and group highlights - I will update on them all more when I do the full writeup!
Unfortunately, huge commiserations are due to Dick Sharp who lost his beloved crank he has had man and boy since 1972! Plus rods and more Hope the block and heads are okay Dick and you can rebuild and be back out for next season! Best of luck! Commiserations to all the others who had breakages or gremlins, and hope you can all be back out racing soon! Fair play to several teams who had problems over the weekend but managed to fix them and get back out racing!
Everyone put on such a fantastic show and brilliant to see all the effort put in! Well done everyone!!
