Hi everybody!
Here are the brief results from our WB "Spring Shootout" at the ‘Late Spring Madness RWYB’ event at Shakey, on 13th & 14th May, with a full writeup and results to follow as soon as we can!
The Wild Bunch had 16 teams participating this weekend, as we started off our 22nd running of the Wild Bunch Series. Saturday was dry and sunny in places, with occasional cloud and though it rained overnight and slightly delayed the track opening, Sunday was similar. We managed to complete all 4 rounds of racing on the Sunday. The winners were:
1st Place: Bob Morgan in “B-Sting” .009 – amazing consistency early on in the season 2nd Place: ‘Cowboy’ Jim Tanner in “Shindigger” – his second ever 2nd place finish 3rd Place: Michael Kenway in “Grease Monkey” - Congrats on his first ever Top 4 finish! 4th Place: Skippy in “Cheap Thrills” – Congrats on his and the team’s first ever Top 4 finish!
Special mention goes to Bob Hawkins who was only .001 behind Skippy – over the total of the 4 rounds!! So close!
Many thanks to Bob of Springbridge Direct Ltd for posting the Prize Fund of £100, shared between 1st – 4th places in sponsoring this event.
Here are the Spot Prizes that were awarded:-
Best Reaction (on Race-day): Bob Morgan in “B-Sting” .062 Closest to Dial-in (on Race-day): Bob Morgan in “B-Sting” .006 off (also had an .007 off) Best Altered: Michael Kenway in “Grease Monkey” Best Slingshot: Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II” – incredible runs!! After more epic work between events! Best Burnout: Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II” Best Appearing Car: Michael Kenway in “Grease Monkey”
Some highlights of the weekend included a really good field of Wild Bunch, better weather than predicted, loads of track time, a few fantastic individual performances with PB’s, as always the great group of cars and people and a brilliant show by all the Bunch!
The full field included:
Pete & Rob Brown in “Wrathchild” (great consistency Saturday, but a punctured front runner in the last round slowed their progress) Bob Morgan in “B-Sting” (absolutely amazing consistency and great reactions) Lee Hartnell in “Metal Mistress” (welcome back after a winter rebuild but suffered gremlins, then unfortunately damage, so sorry Lee and Mark and Sarah and kids!) Philippa Turton in “Bitchcraft” (Welcome! improved throughout the weekend and getting a handle on the car) Michael Kenway in “Grease Monkey” (fantastic to see Michael do well on Sunday and get in the Top 4!) Gina Durrant in “Tiki Munki” (great to see Gina and the family out and improving on the Chevy learning curve - go Gina!) Neil Ward in “Andromeda” (good to see him and Chris out running the car; all the best, mates) Russ Heaven in “Tight Fit” (had his best run at Shakey, then unfortunate damage) Skippy in “Cheap Thrills” (dialled in optimistically and ran consistently, great to see him in the Top 4!) Darryl Howells in “Chemical Reaction” (fantastic to see Darryl back in to the 8’s! fair play!) Alan Loten in “Paranoia” (recovered from being unwell Saturday, good straight runs, and promise, then sustained damage) Dave ‘Sag’ Southworth in “Daddy Cool” (fantastic to see Sag running the dragster with all the family; Great medicine! Great performance Sunday and promising first round but had magneto woes; all the best Sag and hope you can sort that out soon and be back out chasing the 150! We’re all rooting for you! Best of British!) Steve Field in “Black Pig Too” (great to see the team out, though sorry about the gearbox issues) Andy Stones in “Stoned” (return of our current ‘Best Turned out’ team, looking great again!) Jim Tanner in “Shindigger” (good solid performance to get straight back into the Top 4! dig the new image!) Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II” (absolutely awesome runs!!)
Commiserations to: Lee Hartnell who has sustained head and block damage in the Rover, Russ Heaven who has torched a head, Alan & Steve who look like they have lost a couple of pistons in the Jag. Hope they can all get fixed and be back out on track soon!
A big welcome to a (semi) new team – Mark and Philippa Turton with Philippa driving this weekend with the car in the slingshot coupe configuration named “Bitchcraft”. Mark had raced his ‘Growler’ and ‘Growler once bitten twice shy’ several years ago in the Bunch, but this is Philippa’s first full racing event after checkout passes last year.
PB’s Bob Morgan in “B-Sting” 133.19 mph Philippa Turton in "Bitchcraft" 13.560 Michael Kenway 10.509 at 129.97mph Gina Durrant in “Tiki Munki” 120.13 mph Skippy in “Cheap Thrills” 132.86 mph Darryl Howells in “Chemical Reaction” 153.09 mph Jim Tanner in “Shindigger” 137.61 mph Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II” 6.792 !!!!! (at 200mph!!!!) Another new Wild Bunch ET Record – Congrats, Bob!! Especially after all the hard work again. He also ran 2 other 6’s on the Sunday, 6.855 and 6.818!
[Please shout if I’ve missed any!!]
It was a great relaxed and fun event, where we were lucky to get all 4 rounds completed! Many thanks to all at Shakey for their hard work once again, and big thanks again to Dave Rowlands and the track crew for all the great prep. Well done to all! Well done to all the Wild Bunch teams on some fantastic performances! We look forward to another big field next event at our ‘Spring Nationals’ at the Gary’s Picnic Yanks weekend on 27th – 29th May. Hope to see you there!
