Hi everyone
Here are the brief results from the ‘Open Sport Nationals’ at Shakey last weekend 26th – 28th August, and what a fantastic event it was!!
The Wild Bunch had a total of 6 teams competing at the event:
Keith Crampton in “Soul Town Shaker” (great qualifying performance and a host of trophies!) Terry Clifford in “Ratcatcher Resurrection” (great low 9-second runs and entertaining passes) Phil James in “Rampage” (mixed qualifying, then became super-consistent on race day! Well done!) Darryl Howells in “Chemical Reaction” (on great form again, really strong runs in the mid 8’s) Bob Hawkins in “Time Traveller II” (more fantastic 6’s and stonking burnouts!) Liz Malcolm in “Jus’ 4 Fun” (double classing with Wild Bunch and Pro ET - welcome Liz & Iain!)
Saturday’s weather was fine, warm and dry and we had 4 qualifiers with everyone safely qualified! Sunday was dry, very warm and sunny too, and we had another 3 qualifiers. Monday turned out lovely and sunny and warm with a nice breeze, and all eliminations were run and completed before 5pm.

Phil has WON the 2017 APIRA Series with this event win! This is his first APIRA title, after finishing Runner-up in the last 2 seasons! Many Congratulations to Phil and the whole team on this achievement! The team this weekend also included son Carl, visiting from Malaysia, wife Anna, brother Mike, sister Alison and friend Matt. A great weekend for all of them!! Well done!! Phil has now also taken the lead in the Springbridge MSA Challenge, with 1 event left to run.
Terry Clifford has emerged the winner of the 2017 Roy Wilding Nostalgia Race Cars Series with his excellent Runner-up placing, which moved him up from 4th to 1st Place in the Series!! This is Terry’s first Series win of any kind since 2011, and his second Roy Wilding title (the other in 2010) so very Many Congratulations to Terry and the whole team on this great Series win!! Very well done!!
Darryl, Phil & Terry have all moved up into the Top 5 of the Spirit of Nostalgia Challenge with 1 round left. Keith is not far behind them! Any of these 4 drivers have a mathematical chance of finishing 2nd in this Series1 (Team B-Sting has already secured the 2017 Series win!)

It was a brilliant event overall. Many thanks to all the Shakespeare County marshals and officials, track crew and organisers for all their hard work over the weekend, especially in the really warm weather! Special thanks to Mark Coulsell who did an absolutely fantastic non-stop job pit running for calling all of the classes at the weekend! Well done, Mark! And a big Happy Birthday to Lynne Coulsell for Wednesday!!
Really looking forward to another great finale at the MSA ‘National Finals’ at Santa Pod 3 weeks this Friday. If you have not yet got your event entry in for this, the deadline at normal price is this Friday, 1st September (forms available through the SPRC club page on eurodragster.com)
