Hi everyone!
Here are the brief (not very!)results from the spectacular 8th Annual Dragstalgia event at Santa Pod last weekend, 13th - 15th July. A very hot weekend weather-wise and performance and show-wise!! After sadly having to miss last year's event, I was chuffed to be back watching the amazing show that the Wild Bunch all put on!!
The Wild Bunch had an amazing field of 34 teams taking part including teams from France, Italy and Germany. Commiserations to 4 entrants who couldn't make it: Dick Sharp and 'Dorset Horn', Callum Swinchatt and 'Przym Altered', Dan Sharp and 'Little Big Horn'' and Matt Fuller and 'Oblivion'. Commiserations also to Alan Loten & Steve Williams who had patiently waited for parts and done a lot of hard work to rebuild the engine in the 'Paranoia' altered. A late fireup just before the event revealed some problems with a couple of cylinders, so although the team brought the car, they were sadly unable to run. Fantastic to see them and the car though! Hope to see all these teams at the next event! All the best to you all!! Well done also to Ian & Ruaridh Hart, new Wild Bunch members, who nearly finished their funny car in time for the event. They did get to display the car in the marquee though, so look forward to seeing them racing with the Bunch soon! (And many thanks for getting my camper alternator belt! Much appreciated!)
The weather was really good all weekend, and super hot on Saturday! It was a challenge to stay cool but great to have some dry weather throughout the event! Some teams entered the RWYB for testing on the Friday. Then 22 teams took advantage of the bonus run around 6pm on the Friday night! Many thanks to Santa Pod for including us in that session! On Saturday we had two rounds of practice, and had decided to hold our first Series round on the scheduled 3rd session that evening and everyone had declared their Dial-in. We were queued up around 7pm to race, but sadly a couple more oil downs meant we had to turn back. Bob Hawkins was the sole runner for the Fire Burnout and did his usual stunning job for this, his first one on Nitro!! Then 11 Wild Bunch teams took part in a great Cacklefest with the Limited Funz team doing a push down the fireup road, all 3 European teams taking part, and Pete Huckle¡¦s Jag motor heard revving til nearly the end of the noisy Nitro-filled spectacle!! Very Cool!! On Sunday, we were then scheduled for 2 runs, with a faint hope of a 3rd if all ran well. Dial-ins were re-declared, and our first run was around noon, with the second being finished by 4pm. With the scheduled finish time approaching, more oil downs, and the hardworking track crew deservedly coming to the end of the event, there was not time for a third, in what was still a really hot day!
Here are the Top 6 at the event. Many Congratulations to all!!:
1st Place: Terry Clifford in 'Ratcatcher Resurrection' .0295 average (brilliant win!!) 2nd Place: Phil James in 'Rampage' .0446 average (great consistency!) 3rd Place: Craig Larman in 'The Ferret' .0484 average (fantastic result for first event of the year! proudly racing for Dad!) 4th Place: Bob Morgan in 'B-Sting' .0556 average (back on form in the 10.3s!) 5th Place: Skippy in 'Cheap Thrills' .0605 average (way to go Skippy and team!) 6th Place: Alan Lloyd in 'Gonzo the Great' .0617 average (great performance!)

The ladies looked gorgeous in their matching black and orange -ball outfits! So much attention to detail as always!! Wow!! Plus special mention goes to Wild Bunch racers Bob Hawkins & Chris Manning, running in the Slingshot Showdown. Bob had just rebuilt the Nitro-powered motor in 'Time Traveller II' and ran a couple of 6.7's and a 6.6 and finished Runner-up in the Showdown with a 6.8!! Plus he was the sole fire burnout performer - spectacular as always! He was also awarded the 'Spirit of Dragstalgia' trophy for the whole event!! Fantastic and very well deserved!! Big Congratulations Bob!! Plus very big Congratulations to Chris Manning who ran another great PB in 'The Villain', a 7.87 and won the 'Best Appearing Car' award for the whole of the Dragstalgia event with his beautiful period-perfect slingshot!! Well done to the whole team!! Great show both!! We really look forward to seeing these guys back with the Bunch at the next event!!
Also a special shout out to starters and crew extraordinaire Ian Marshall & Dave Warren! They wore their period white overalls for the first day and then looked really cool in their white longsleeved shirts, brown trousers, flat caps and very British ties tucked in to their shirts! Other highlights include: the absolutely amazing show from all of the Wild Bunch (again the biggest class at the event), loads of beautiful backup girls (thanks for taking pics Mark and Andy!), great team wear, great performances, fantastic individual achievements and historic matchups!! And that most incredible debut of Faye driving 'Daddy Cool'!! Beyond their wildest dreams, so well deserved, and the whole team a huge credit to themselves and a beautiful tribute to Sag!! Everyone in the Bunch really did themselves so proud as always!! Well done all!
Commiserations to all those who had breakages or gremlins, and hope you can all be back out racing soon! Special good luck to Steve & Lesley who sadly suffered engine damage. Such a massive shame after the car's recent amazing performance! Fair play to several teams who had problems over the weekend but managed to fix them and get back out racing, including Keith Crampton who had MSD and electrical problems! All the teams thank everyone who pitched in and helped!
Everyone put on such an amazing show and fantastic to see all their efforts! Well done everybody!! Here is the full field of amazing Wild Bunch participants!!!! Wow!!!!

Now in the low 9's so hope we see that magic 8 soon! Well done!!) Dr Faye Hern in 'Daddy Cool' (Wow!!! What can we say?! Just an absolutely amazing debut from Faye in her first ever runs down the strip in any car! Fantastic burnouts right from the start, a 9.40/146 on her second ever run was phenomenal, and already exceeded all team expectations and she then got better and better to a 9.06/147; it's like she's been driving for years! She also won the 'Best in Show' award and the 'Spirit of Nostalgia' Spot Prize, well-deserved for her and the whole team!! We really believe she had the best co-pilot possible alongside her all the way - Sag would be bursting with pride with her achievements as well as the amazing spirit she and the whole of the family team displayed, he was truly with them all and in all our thoughts and hearts; Congratulations to each and every one of the 'Daddy Cool' team for their part in their brilliant weekend!
