We had a field of 24 cars, despite the weather! Most teams managed 1 run on Saturday, and results were based over 3 rounds on Sunday.
WB 2Tony Wynne-Jones was making a few passes in his white Westfield (other car still under construction!), but later experienced a gearbox breakage.
WB 4Clayton Round ran consistently and finished just 'short' of his best E.T. in "Shortshot" to take 3rd place.
WB 6Chris Hartnell came closest to dial-in for the weekend in round 1, just .005 under his 9.65 dial-in with a 9.645, and finished in 4th spot.
WB 7Roy Wilding went through a lot of fuel in the pits firing up "Hemi Hunter" trying to tune her up (with huge crowds of interested spectators), and would've made a pass on Saturday if it wasn't for the weather.
WB 8Steve Rain was having fun in his bright orange T and ran his personal best of 13.875 in round 2, taking "Best Radical" prize.
WB 11Clive Bush had a great weekend:- he'd run 24 seconds last meeting, followed by 21 secs on Saturday, then on Sunday ran 18.1, 14.8 and finally lowering to his best E.T. of 12.419 in the ex-Wilding ex-"Chariot of Fire" slingshot, really starting to get a handle on it and making it his own, and actually finishing 5th (due to a clever 15 sec dial-in!!). Congratulations!
WB 20Mark Coulsell tried some different tune-ups and had fun, proving himself popular with the "Driver's Choice" award, voted for by WB members. He even released his new bright yellow 'chute at the end of the quarter!!
WB 28Pete Loveridge made 4 good passes this weekend in the mid to high 11's and enjoyed doing so, picking up "Best Slingshot" and "Nick's Pick" (Nick Pettitt of "Time Travel Videos" vote for best overall of the weekend).
WB 43Martin Holgate had a good weekend, dialling in an 11.00 to suit "Paranoia"s current performance and finishing 2nd and taking "Best Reaction" despite a broken bone in his foot due to a 'domestic cleaning accident'. His only problem was how to carry his trophies, also including "Best Altered", back to his car after the presentation!
WB 48Chris Round, had one smokey run on Saturday and benched the car with a worn valve-guide.
WB 56Ed Yates was in his first turn in "Ramraider" this season, just getting back into the swing of things, when low oil pressure was discovered (engine now already stripped and on the way back together with some fresh parts!)
WB 58Tony Froome was on his second outing in the "Sundance III" altered and ran a very straight 10-second pass followed by his best of the weekend 9.515, still getting used to the car.
WB 61Nick Pettitt had tuned his new injection system a bit more on the "Kool Kams" coupe-bodied slingshot, but was unfortunately shut down on the line in round one with slight fuel leaks.
WB 67Darryl Howells had optimistically dialled in 12.80 (his best run last event) and ran two 13-second runs followed by a much better 12.815 in the "Jolly Boys Outing".
WB 71Andy Solley was back in his orange altered having fun and running his best ever E.T. Of 10.142 in round 3.
WB 86Dick Sharp only had 1 run on the Sunday, a 10.6, when he was left stranded at the top end by a seized gearbox, which within a matter of a couple of hours was out and in the capable hands of Colin E. Smith for repair!
WB 96Jeff Thomas was out in Tony Smith's "The Cunning Plan" altered minus the bodywork (a good cunning plan - not to make Tony sweat too much while on holiday!). Jeff ran a respectable best of a 13.08, not bad for his second run in ages.
WB 97Dave Armstrong was back in his originally wildly painted "Twin Jynx" slingshot, running a best of an 11.19 for the weekend.
WB 99Mike Wynne-Jones was running in his tidy red Cobra replica, having a few teething problems.
WB 102Steve Goode ran his "Wobble" altered on the Saturday and broke, but hopes to be back next event.
WB 110Nick Connor was very happy to be back in his bright yellow altered and had a lot of help from all his "Dog Squad" mates; he later had a broken oil seal and gearbox leak - this should be fixed soon!
WB 117Nigel King and Nick Grayston were back in the big-block altered now painted yellow, blue and white, running a best of a 10.581. (had a good-looking race with Tony Froome, two big altereds side by side!).
WB 119Andy Gosling was on track in the little "Nutcracker", running on av-gas, doing a weekend best of a 13.399 in round 2 and a 99.99 mph run in round 3 (the DB's have never topped the 100 yet and only a plug lead coming off on the following "grudge run" stopped them!!!). Andy finished with a 99.998% average (only .001 off a perfect E.T Total) to take 1st place with the closest percentage in Wild Bunch ever! Fair play!! The whole "Dog's Bollocks" team (with "Ramraider" and "Nutcracker") took "Best Appearing Team" trophy.
WB 637Gerald Cookson was back with new shock absorbers in the "Super Joker" midget race-car, running low 13's.
A great weekend, not really dampened by the weather, with some good close racing.
