Has anyone had any experience of screwing tyres on rims?
Had our rims drilled when we got them but never screwed the tyres on. Used the proper Moroso screws but there were some leaks. It seems that the screw has pushed the bead away from the rim on some rather than screw into the tyre causing a leak. Took the offending screws out and its sealed OK
Any suggestions/Ideas please

Hi guys,
We had the same problem; Inflate the tyre to a higher pressure to seat it well, like 20 or 25, not silly high… and then screwed in and out a few times, make sure the screw wasn’t blunted by self tapping the wheel, so maybe use one screw to cut the threads and new screw to bite into the bead. After a bit of jiggery-pokery all seated well.
Then after we had a puncture we switched to running tubes, and they never leaked at all after that of course. Probably lot’s of following discussion about running tubes or not, which I’m not going to get drawn into . What I would say is don’t run tubes without rim screws because if the tyre moves on the rim it will turn the tube and rip the valve off the tube, with the subsequent rapid and complete deflation…

as dean said pump it up to 25psi or so and put them in by hand alternating to each side of the wheel to keep the bead seated. Bit of copper slip on the screws help cut the thread. |

tried one more this morning with the copperslip, tyre still inflated, will do some more over the weekend and fingers crossed the copperslip is the answer.
