Hi folks,
Just a brief posting to let you all know the winners from the ‘July Shootout’ at the Shakey RWYB on 23rd & 24th July. The Wild Bunch had 11 teams participating at the weekend. Saturday was dry and warmer than expected, and several teams had 2 or 3 runs. Sunday was mostly dry with only a short stoppage for a very light shower, and a fair bit cooler. The track was busy first thing, but we still managed to get all 4 rounds of racing in, which was great.
The winners and averages were:
1st Place: Alan Loten in ‘Paranoia’ (A brilliant 3 in a row for Alan!) .0508 2nd Place: Rob & Pete Brown in ‘Wrathchild’ (their highest ever finish!) .0533 3rd Place: Keith Crampton in ‘Soul Town Shaker’ .083 (another good Top 4) .0718 4th Place: Jim Tanner in ‘Shindigger’ (his second Top 4 of the year) .0820
Of note: there was only one hundredth of a second in it between 1st & 2nd place over the total of the 4 rounds! And four hundredths between 3rd and 4th places! Great close racing!
Spot Prizes were:
Closest to Dial-in: Rob Brown in ‘Wrathchild’ .005 off (Pete had a .009) Best Altered: Alan Loten & Steve Williams with 'Paranoia’ Best Slingshot: Rob & Pete Brown in ‘Wrathchild’ Best Engineered: Keith Crampton in ‘Soul Town Shaker’ Driver's Choice: Pete & Rob Brown in ‘Wrathchild’
So a fantastic weekend for the ‘Paranoia’ and ‘Wrathchild’ teams!! Well done to them!!
And there were a couple of PB’s on the return of some former members:
Nigel Lane in ‘Azbo’ 8.85! Welcome back Nigel and Kim!! Great debut for the engine!
The full field was:
Keith Crampton in ‘Soul Town Shaker’ Bob Morgan in ‘B-Sting’ Mark Coulsell in ‘Ballbreaker’ Michael Kenway in ‘Grease Monkey’ Pete and Rob Brown in ‘Wrathchild’ Nigel Lane in ‘Azbo’ Russ Heaven in ‘Tight Fit’ Alan Loten in ‘Paranoia’ Andy Stones in ‘Stoned’ Jim Tanner in ‘Shindigger’ Bob Hawkins in ‘Time Traveller II’
Also testing on Saturday was Steve Bingham in his ’Sneaky Blinder’ Topolino altered making progress.
Commiserations to Mark Coulsell who has a crack somewhere in the front of the chassis, Michael Kenway who had low oil pressure (hope nothing too serious!) and Russ Heaven who torched a head. Well done to Alan and Steve who managed to sort out a nitrous pump problem Saturday, and win the event despite dialling in blind, and to Bob Hawkins who lost reverse gear, but managed to find his lost roller bearings and sort the problem to put in a good pass Sunday. Good luck at Hockenheim, Bob!!!
Highlights of the weekend include a great bunch of cars and people as always, the ‘Hawaiian’ fancy dress Saturday night (just a bit of fun!), and getting 4 rounds of racing in with the good weather! A full news writeup will be posted as soon as we can.
