The Hot Rod Drags was not a Series round but there were spot prizes as per above. The weather was better than expected and we had a field of 24 cars at this event. Saturday and Sunday were as RWYB/T'n'T. Cars queued and ran in groups. | |
WB 2 | Tony Wynne-Jones was back in the Westfield and experienced some problems. |
WB 4 | Clayton Round was running well in the "Shortshot" altered, running a p.b. of 10.897 on Saturday. Lowering this to a 10.870 on Sunday - great advert for selling the car!! |
WB 6 | Chris Hartnell was out in "Backdraft" and ran 2 passes each day with a weekend best of 9.431 (with his best ever reaction of .503 & best 60ft & best 330ft). |
WB 7 | Roy Wilding was out in "Hemi Hunter" running with The Supercharged Outlaws. He ran a 9.7 and a so far personal best in the car of 9.553 @ 148.03 mph, after experiencing clutch problems and later breaking the crank shaft blower drive. |
WB 9 | Wendy Baker had fixed the gearbox in the "Northern Star" slingshot and made a couple of passes including a very hairy ride where the car kept wanting to head towards the guard rail! Wendy's car also had a breakage on the crank shaft blower drive, but she finished with a more promising 9.8 on sunday. |
WB 20 | Mark Coulsell was out in the "Limited Funz" slingshot running 11's, and also reducing his reaction times to the best of .404!! |
WB 28 | Pete Loveridge made about 8 passes over the weekend, mostly in the 11.4's, running a best of 11.361 and enjoying the weekend. |
WB 43 | Martin Holgate was back in "Paranoia" and had the "NOS" on again, running a couple of high 9's in the high 120's. |
WB 56 | Eddie Yates made 6 passes in the "RamRaider" - all low 11's on saturday and then beating his previous best in the car by miles 3 times on Sunday with an overall team best of 10.492 @ 127.12 mph and taking "Best Slingshot" for his efforts. |
WB 58 | Tony Froome went better and better all weekend, running his first 8 in "Sundance III" - 8.978 @ 146 mph; later an 8.686 finishing with a best of 8.668 @ 156.79 mph taking both "Quickest E.T." and "Fastest mph" , as well as "Best Burnout" for his strong smoky burnouts. |
WB 67 | Darryl Howells was having fun in the "Jolly Boys Outing" . He ran mid 12's and did a massive wheelie on Sunday taking "Wildest Ride". |
WB 71 | Andy Solley was back running well in his orange altered. |
WB 86 | Dick Sharp was back in "Dorset Horn" and ran a few low to mid 10's, but still has a couple of gearbox problems. |
WB 88 | Richard Walters and Lee Johnstone were back for their "annual" outing in the "Thriller" altered, both running well in the high 9's and within 7 thousandths of each other at one point (Rich 9.882 and Lee 9.889!) They'll be coming out to play more often next season! |
WB 91 | Ian Hanson was making some gradually quicker passes in his blown red altered, including a 9.942. |
WB 96 | Crewman Dave Williams was making his first passes in "The Cunning Plan" (first with the body off!) Running a respectable 12.9 and then a fantastic 11.839 (faster than owner Tony without body!!!). The body was hastily put back on, Dave having proved his driving ability; he then ran a solid 12.8 followed by a 12.353 (maybe he'll have his own car one day!). |
WB 99 | Mike Wynne-Jones was back in his red Cobra, and experienced some problems. |
WB 102 | Steve Goode was another driver consistently running better and better over the weekend with a good .506 reaction on Saturday and a p.b. 10.801 @ 130.43 mph, 10.767 and a best of 10.568 on sunday! |
WB 110 | Nick Connor was out in the "Barking Mad" altered running better and better until his personal best of 11.644. He unfortunately later broke his gearbox. |
WB 116 | New member Gerry Rogers was out making debut passes in his yellow/blue/orange Topolino, running a best of 11.3, without gas, and really enjoying his racing - welcome to Wild Bunch!! |
WB 117 | Nick Grayston had his turn in the big block yellow/blue/white altered and was yet another driver running better and better with a couple of 9.8's on the Saturday (first 9's for Nigel and Nick!) and then a 9.788 on Sunday. |
WB 119 | Sarah Howells did not get a run in the valiant "Nutcracker" as the newly rebuilt engine sprung a leak!! (seems this urged the "RamRaider" on to be the star of the team this weekend!). They'll be back by the end october meet to try to hold on to their Wild Bunch points lead!! |
WB 121 | Vince Andrews was debuting his beautiful funny car "Just Another Toy", making checkout passes and happy with the car except for some wicked vibrations - soon have that sorted! |
WB 637 | Gerald Cookson was running very well all weekend, with a best of 12.04! Seems turning 70 really fires you up!!! Congratulations Gerald! |
In all, 8 drivers ran their personal bests this weekend and everyone had a great time! Good to see some exciting Supercharged Outlaw action as well - congratulations to Jim Seward for his brilliant 7.19 and Mickey Moore for his 180 mph!!! They and the other SCO's really put on a great show!! |
